For immediate release; CINCINNATI

Dr. Robert Heidt Jr. announced today his resignation as team physician for the Cincinnati Bengals. During Dr. Heidt’s tenure he was able to assist members of the Cincinnati Bengals team from Sunday to Sunday and treat them, test them and push them to achieve optimum performance on the field.

”I have been very fortunate to have served 27 years as the Cincinnati Bengals team physician and am thankful to the Brown family to have had this opportunity,” states Dr. Heidt. “I value those relationships made on and off the field, from players to trainers, this has been the experience of a lifetime,” Dr. Heidt continued.

Twenty-seven years in the NFL is a notable accomplishment. In 2010, Dr. Heidt was awarded the distinctive Jerry “Hawk” Rhea Award for excellence in the NFL. The 2010 Hawk Award is given to a physician each year from the National Football League Physicians Society. Voted on by peers, the award is presented each year to a team physician for distinguished years of service to their respective team, the NFL and The Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society. Dr. Heidt was President of the NFL Physicians Society and published several articles about shoe safety selection in NFL competition.

Education and community outreach will continue to be Dr. Heidt’s passion. Dr. Heidt will continue to focus on his orthopaedic practice at Wellington Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, as team physician for St. Xavier High School as well as the Co-Director of the Wellington/UC Sports Medicine Fellowship Program.
