One of the key ways to determine an athlete’s brain recovery following a concussion is to compare the level of brain function before and after the concussion.
At the Wellington Sports Concussion Management Program, we use ImPACT©, a research-based software program that evaluates multiple aspects of brain function, such as memory and mental processing speed. The information we gather can help us to assess how severe the concussion is and to monitor recovery of brain function.
ImPACT© provides important insights into the challenging puzzle of concussion management for athletes from middle school through college. It can help us return these young athletes to play as quickly and safely as possible following a sports concussion.
