Take note of our Q & A for patients of Eastern Orthopaedics.

John Christopher Linz, MD

Dr. Linz is a rarity among orthopaedic surgeons. He is one of just a few in Cincinnati, including Wellington colleague Sandra Eisele, MD, who specialize in foot and ankle surgery. Many of Dr. Linz's patients are athletes. "I see a lot of ankle injuries that have associated problems beyond the scope of the general orthopaedist." He has a special interest in total ankle replacements and osteochondral lesions of the talus. Dr. Linz also is a wound care specialist, treating poorly healing wounds which often occur in diabetic patients. He lectures on foot and ankle topics throughout Greater Cincinnati and nationally.

His interest in orthopaedics stems from five years working as a physical therapist. "I enjoyed being a PT, but I wanted to be more involved with my patients' care, specifically in their surgical treatment." Although his heart told him to return to school, the logistics of doing so were difficult. "I was married with kids, a house and a dog. Quitting my job for 10 more years of schooling was a difficult decision but one that I'll never regret. My father always told me that if I found a job that I loved, I would never work again. I love orthopaedics!"

Dr. Linz was born, raised and still resides on the east side of Cincinnati with his wife, Amy, and their three children. Like many of the Wellington physicians, he is a graduate of St. Xavier High School and is very active in the care of local athletes at all levels. His outside interests include coaching football, weight lifting, running and golf.

As a volunteer professor, Dr. Linz helps to train the orthopaedic surgeons of the future. "Orthopaedics is a specialty that is changing everyday and I find that teaching residents helps me to challenge myself to always be on the cutting edge."
